In a funk

I'm in a blogging funk right now. Not much is happening except the planning of a first birthday party. If I don't find something else to write about soon I'll definately be back this weekend with all of the exciting birthday pics!

Blah

I have a headache. It won't go away. I took a nap. I took some Motrin. It won't. go. away. And now Bella is crying in her crib because she's decided she doesn't want to go to bed right now (even though she was asleep at the boob). I think this is one of those Calgon days.

Happy 1st Birthday Bella!!

With all the excitement I haven't been able to blog about my Bella-boo! She turned one today and I can't believe it! Here is my birth story from just one year ago and a bit more if you are interested in reading it.

So with all the excitement we didn't get to do much for her. Uncle Frankie stopped by and dh brought pizza home for dinner so he ate with us. My mom stopped by too and ate some. They both signed Logan's cast. I baked some cupcakes and gave Bella the first one and we tried to take some photos outside but since the grass is still pretty much dead and all she wanted to do was pull it up, they didn't turn out the best. She was tired by the time 7pm rolled around so it was into the bath and straight to bed for my baby girl. Dh wants to take her to the toy store and see if anything catches her eye. LOL I guess we'll do that tomorrow night. Here are a few photos of my baby girl's birthday! Happy birthday Bella!! I love you little mama.

Visit to the Ortho

I called our ped this morning for a referral to an ortho and the only place they really recommended was out in Tampa so that's where I called. They were able to work us in thankfully. I really liked them. So we left the house just after 10am and we were seen probably close to 12pm. Thankfully there were other kids to keep the boys occupied as well as a big screen tv showing Monsters Inc. and a few toys. My son can't be kept from getting injured though- even in the waiting room. While I was at the front desk he went to sit down, tripped (or miscalculated) and smacked his eye into the arm of the chairs. It's scraped up and swollen. It looks like I've been beating him! They gave us some ice so that helped.

When we were called back they took off Logan's temporary cast and his arm looked pretty normal. They wrapped it in Gore-Procel (aka Gore-Tex) which is the same stuff they use for waterproof fabrics. He is required to get it wet everyday. How nice is that?! Boy has technology changed. Getting it wet will keep it from itching and smelling and it gets all the dead skin out. He also got the normal mesh overlay and he picked red for his color. After they wrapped him they had to set the bone. That hurt. I felt so bad for him. They literally squeezed the arm until it was set in place again. There was no distracting him from that pain unfortunately. They took xrays again after they were done and it looked good so they gave us our instructions and we were out the door. We were starving and my friend Jen told me he needed a treat so we stopped by McD's on the way home for a late lunch. So far he's been fine with the arm. It doesn't hurt him at all he says.

Unfortunately he's not feeling well now. I don't know if the cold that's going around the house finally caught up to him or it was just all the stress of the past 2 days but he actually fell asleep at 7pm and didn't eat dinner (pizza) or a cupcake. I know the boy is sick if he doesn't eat! Dh put him in bed and we'll see how he is in the morning. He just can't catch a break I guess. Keep him in your thoughts!

**Update: He's def. sick. He got up twice to throw up and was running a fever. My poor baby!!

We were all the way down by St Joes but you could see the roller coasters at Busch Gardens from the window.

What a day!

Ian's caught a cold. The same cold that dh also has at the moment. I think dh got the worst of it though. So Ian's been under the weather today. I kind of like it though when he's like this. How horrible is that to say? He's quiet. He likes to lay with you in bed. He even took a nap in my bed at 10am. Bella was napping too so I napped right along with them!

The rest of the day went by pretty normally. Until tonight that is. Logan and I left for tumbling as usual and about halfway thru class he was doing a cartwheel, came down wrong and hurt his wrist. It started swelling immediately. I had no idea what happened. I heard him wailing so I looked up from my book and waited to see what was going on. There have been times he's hurt himself before and he cries but gets over it and goes on. This time was different though. I knew something was wrong when they came to get me. It felt totally odd to walk out into the gym area. They had him laying on the floor and I could see his wrist looked funny. Leighton (coach) went to get some ice and an ace bandage while Torian (his fave coach) was keeping him calm. As long as Logan was distracted he was okay with the pain. We talked about school, movies, friends, etc. anything to keep him from thinking about his arm.

So we left and I was immediately on the phone with dh trying to get phone numbers for our ped's after hours care. They don't do xrays though so we were sent to another After Hours office and we were seen within 15min of walking in. At least I didn't have to spend 3 hours in the ER. They took the xrays and when they were ready we saw the ARNP who showed me the films and clearly it was broken. It's a right distal radius fracture. It's the bone that runs up your arm on the thumb side on his right hand. Which just so happens to be his dominant hand. He got upset when I mentioned he wouldn't be able to write with that hand. Why was he upset? Because he wouldn't be able to do his math. I think he got more upset over the math then when he got upset that he couldn't play his DS! LOL I'm more worried about how he'll do day-to-day things like using the bathroom (wiping, pulling up his pants, snapping, buttoning, etc) when we aren't there to help. So they gave him some Motrin, splinted the arm up to the elbow in a temp cast (which is heavy!), gave him a sling and sent us off with a pain meds RX and orders to call an ortho in the morning.

He was such a trooper! He's usually one of those kids who acts like they are dying over a scrape and here he is with a broken wrist and he smiled for the camera when I was documenting it all. Yes I took photos! This is the first broken bone in the family! ;) When we got home he was showing it off the dh and Ian. It was like nothing had happened. Must have been some good Motrin! I put Bella to bed but had to run out again to get dh some cold meds and get Logan his rx. He didn't care for it even though I had it flavored but he's going to have to suck it up. It's Hydrocodone so it makes him sleepy and he conked out fast. Could be all the excitement tonight too though. He's having to sleep with Ian in the bottom bunk as it's a bit tough to climb up and down the ladder with only one arm. He may be stuck there for the next 6 weeks or so. I'm sure he won't be thrilled to hear that. I guess we could always blow up the air bed if necessary.

Tomorrow I'll be calling his ped for a referral to an ortho first thing. He'll be skipping school for the day. I want to get his arm cast soon. Poor baby. I felt so bad for him. He actually wants to go back to tumbling once the cast is off. Me? I'm not so sure. I have 2 weeks left for this month's tuition so hopefully we'll have that credited. I'm scared he's not getting enough calcium or something! Probably silly right? Ugh. I guess that's what us Moms do best- WORRY! We will have to go back to the gym though next week probably just so I can sign the accident report and his coaches can sign his cast!

In the waiting room. He was watching Bolt.

In one of the exam areas. They all had tv's with movies and rocking chairs. He was watching Kung Fu Panda.

I don't think arms are meant to bend that way. It hurts my heart!

Random

First, I still love my Diva Cup. I don't think I could ever live without this thing! Don't know what it is? Here's my original post. Now I can go to the beach or pool without fear any time of year!

Next, I realized last night that one of Bella's Pediped shoes was missing. I bought them at a steep discount before she was born and love them so I was upset when one went missing. I know it was in my car but she hasn't worn them in a while so I had no idea where to start looking for them. On a whim this morning I called SuperTarget since I go there a couple times a week and at first she didn't see it but she must have remembered something and asked me to hold on. She came back and said she had it! Woohoo!! I guess it fell out of the car at some point and some nice person turned it in. Thank you nice person!!

What's left? Oh I was at Joann's this morning getting some more tulle for Bella's party tutu and happened to see their discount aisle. It reminds me of Target's Dollar Spot but everything is $2.50 here. They had cupcake stuff!! I got the CUTEST cupcake bookmarks (3/package) for the goody bags. I put the bags together when I got home and they are adorable. I can't wait to give them out!

Bok Tower Gardens (pic heavy)

I really wanted to take some photos of Bella for her birthday and since most places wouldn't be able to have the photos back in time I decided to do them myself. What was supposed to be birthday photos ended up more like Easter or just nice photos though. I loved the dress I put her in today (I had planned on changing her later so she wouldn't spit up on her birthday dress or something) so much that I never changed her! So now I still need to do birthday photos but I got some good shots to put on my wall as well.

So now that you have the back story, this is where we went today. It's about an hour away in Lake Wales. It's called Bok Tower Gardens and it's beautiful! Bok Tower itself is this 205ft tower that houses the Carrillon. It's also called the Singing Tower. The boys both loved it and Ian wanted to go back to see it instead of going home. You can't actually go into the tower but the grounds around it are so nice. You can picnic, relax on the grass or benches, take in the view of the surrounding area or explore all the gardens and trails. We did a little bit of everything. There's also a mansion on the property you can tour (for a fee) but you can walk the grounds around it free. I'd love to have a house like it! There are orange groves all around the area and they are blooming right now so the smell is wonderful. If someone could just bottle that up I'd wear it as perfume! LOL

And there's a ridge trail you can take that used to be the highest point of what is now Florida. "...a geologically significant range of sand and limestone hills, which were islands from two to three million years ago, when sea levels were much higher than at present. Many species of plants and animals evolved in isolation and are endemic to the Ridge. Most are threatened or endangered by possible extinction." It's totally different than the gardens. A lot of scrub, cacti, and sand. The boys weren't into it like they were the garden trails. Thank goodness it ended back at the front where there were picnic tables to rest, water fountains and spigots to wash off our feet. We were thirsty and dirty! Thank goodness for Crocs! ;)

I look forward to going over there again one day. It may become our new picture taking spot! Here are only a fraction of the photos we took today.
