Nature at Costco

You see these birds a lot in our area. They are called Florida Sandhill Cranes. They are a PITA although nice to look at. There always just a pair of them(they mate for life) unless they've had a baby recently and they love nothing better than to take 10min. crossing the street in front of you while holding up traffic. And no, you can not hit them (for those out there thinking that). They are protected by law.

I always see them but I've never been able to get close enough to take a picture. I'm usually driving or they are across the street and too far away or I just don't have my camera with me so when I spotted them at Costco right where I was going to park anyway I had my opportunity! I couldn't get too close as they spooked easily but here are a couple of shots.

I used to hate them, but I changed my mind about them over the years. Now, I love them, and I love seeing their babies every Spring.

That's probably the same pair that we saw in the parking lot of BRU last week. They were making noises and Joshua was trying to figure out where it was coming from. I took the kids to look at them and we got about 10 feet away. I was afraid to get any closer than that in case they attacked us or something, lol.

I personally hate them. When Olivia was born, we planted a pineapple in her honor and they came and pecked it out of the ground and ate it. Freakin' birds.
